A Quick Trip to Dallas, TX

Honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect out of Dallas, TX. I’d been here briefly once before but not in the city per se. I always try to compare my experiences going into a new city with the feeling of Denver. Meaning, if I were a tourist walking into Denver and I walked down a weird area, would that dictate my overall feelings about Denver on that? Probably! So when I personally know there’s SO much more to offer in Denver, it makes me wonder about the hidden gems of a new city to me.

Downside to Dallas: No scooters

I love a scooter option to see a new city. The Uber driver told us that they banned scooters and electric bikes because people were throwing them into the road…ugh why you gotta ruin it for everyone?! I wish we would’ve had scooters but we still managed to walk a lot.

JFK Memorial

I really appreciate seeing memorials and landmarks. That’s a new thing in life sine being with Richie. I think he brought an element of appreciation to my world for US History. For anyone who is interested in US History, I think this is a must see. If you’re not as into it, honestly you could probably skip it. It’s a small memorial but still a huge part of history.

Deep Ellem

Definitely my favorite area that we visited. It had a lot of trendy restaurants and bars, we were told it’s a big nightlife season but I personally loved the boutiques in the area. I’m a HUGE Kristin Cavallari fan and she has her Uncommon James store there.

Giant Eye Ball

The giant eye ball was weird to say the least. It’s a giant 30-foot eyeball put onto this sectioned off, beautifully manicured lawn in the middle of Downtown Dallas. Odd. Apparently the artist made the eyeball to replicate his own eyeball? We looked up history and there are still a lot of question marks about why it’s there…it’s weird.

Canvas Hotel

They’re SO close to having their shit together at this hotel, but not quite there yet. They are a cute boutique hotel just outside the city of Downtown Dallas. They are SUPER instagram friendly in their lobby and rooftop, yes they have a rooftop bar, lounge and pool which is always a bonus in my books.

The bartenders are super friendly both in the lobby and upstairs on the rooftop. Their breakfast service could use a little work. One thing that drives me nuts, if a menu says an item is part of a dish that you order….please make sure it’s in the dish (i.e. if it’s a Greek Yogurt Parfait….use Greek Yogurt, not Yoplait Vanilla Yogurt).

Canvas has a car that will drive you anywhere within 3 miles which was very nice to have during our stay here, especially since there’s not a ton around this area.

The room we stayed in…219…just make sure you don’t request that room. It was cute don’t get me wrong…but being the second level of a hotel on the side of the main road next to a weird bump in the concrete that all of the trucks clearly need to run over at full speed…makes for a very LOUD room. Additionally, the hotel is very modern with open ceilings and pipes. This makes for a cool vibe and a VERY loud ceiling from the people above you ANY time the move.

I’d rate Canvas about 6 out of 10 all around. Not to be harsh but I think it’s nice to be aware of certain things before spending your hard earned money there.

IACP Convention

Why we were there….we went to the IACP (International Association of Chiefs of Police) for the 40 Under 40 award. My handsome man was the recipient of this prestigious award! Read more about how incredible he is here:

I’m sure there was a TON in Dallas that we missed but we were only there for about 72 hours so we packed as much in as possible.
