Book Reviews - 2024
As 2025 begins, I wanted to take a quick beat to review the books I read in 2024. From edge-of-your-seat thrillers (I read a LOT of Frieda McFadden) to heartfelt stories and even a touch of self-reflection, here’s a look at the books that have shaped my reading journey this year:
Thrillers and Suspense:
Layla by Colleen Hoover A haunting and genre-bending love story that left me questioning reality. Hoover once again proves her knack for blending romance with the unexpected.
Never Lie by Freida McFadden This psychological thriller kept me hooked with its clever twists and an unreliable narrator. It’s one of those books where nothing is what it seems.
The Wife Upstairs by Freida McFadden Full of dark secrets and sinister charm. I couldn’t put this one down.
The Coworker by Freida McFadden Office drama meets gripping mystery in this story about secrets lurking behind the cubicle walls. McFadden strikes again!
The Locked Door by Freida McFadden A chilling tale about a woman grappling with a family she works for. This one left me with goosebumps.
She’s Not Sorry by Mary Kubica A dark and emotional dive into redemption and revenge.
One By One by Freida McFadden A snowbound retreat gone wrong. McFadden masterfully weaves suspense and claustrophobia into this gripping mystery.
The Housemaid is Watching by Freida McFadden Book 3 of the series This spine-tingling tale had me second-guessing every character’s motives. McFadden’s ability to craft suspenseful plots shines here.
The House Across The Lake by Riley Sager With its atmospheric setting and creepy vibes, this book took me on a rollercoaster of twists and turns.
The Teacher by Freida McFadden A gritty and intense thriller that delves into vengeance and justice. A bit creepy (not my favorite of her books).
The Inmate by Freida McFadden Tension and secrets abound in this gripping story set in a maximum-security prison. McFadden’s knack for unpredictable twists is unparalleled.
A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham A twisty-turny. suspense with plot twists that I didn’t see coming.
The Perfect Son by Freida McFadden A classic McFadden style of twists and turns all the way to the end.
The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden The newest McFadden book, I thought I had this one figured out and once again it had quite the twist at the end!
Don’t Let Her Stay by Nicola Sanders A sinister tale of domestic suspense that explores the darkest corners of trust and betrayal.
Heartfelt Stories and Quick Reads
The Exception to the Rule by Christina Lauren A heartwarming and emotional journey about love. This book was a super cute, quick read.
The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren A blend of romance and intrigue set in an idyllic location that isn’t as perfect as it seems. This one was super cute!
Auto-Biography
Rebel Rising a Memoir by Rebel Wilson I love a good auto-biography. I find it very interesting to learn about peoples lives leading up to where they are now.
Self-Help and Inspiration
The Universe Has Your Back by Gabby Bernstein This book was a transformative read, filled with guidance on surrendering to the universe and trusting the process. A perfect dose of inspiration.
What’s Next
Each book on this list has left its mark on me in unique ways. Whether it’s Freida McFadden’s relentless thrillers, Colleen Hoover’s emotional journeys, or Gabrielle Bernstein’s uplifting wisdom, 2024 has been a stellar year for reading.
What’s next on my TBR (To Be Read) list? Only time will tell, but I’m always open to recommendations. Have you read any of these? I’d love to hear your thoughts or suggestions for what I should dive into next!
